The Project Management Institute (PMI, http://www.pmi.org) has modified the requirements for their Agile Certified Practitioner (ACP) designation as of March 26, 2012. While the number of hours of experience and educational requirements have not changed, the types of experience and education have been relaxed somewhat. Specifically, the terms “project management experience” and “project management training” have been modified to eliminate the word “management.” This recognizes that the candidate needs only to have participated on project teams to earn their experience, and that the education may be on general Agile practices, subject to approval by PMI.
Further, the project experience hours in Agile can now be earned over a three-year period. This is in recognition of the fact that Agile practices have not yet been as widely adopted throughout many organizations, so the opportunity to be on Agile teams may be limited. Thus, PMI has expanded the timeframe to make more hours eligible for consideration to potential candidates.
