Have you ever thought about bringing your work home with you? In a positive way, that is. I do. My students laugh in class when I say I sometimes do family retrospectives, but I find them very useful. Hear me out!
Imagine your family sitting down with Post-It notes and answering these questions:
- What went well in 2019
- What didn’t go so well in 2019
- What are we going to do differently in 2020
With two college-aged daughters who come and go from my house and with me traveling often, we identified that communication was somewhat challenged as a group. So in our retrospective, we decided that our “2020 do differently” would be a FamBam text group and a commitment to update it with things everyone needs to know. Yes, it has turned into a litany of gifs, but hey, at least I know how they’re doing!
Now, it’s important to remember that this isn’t a laundry list of items and grievances, but one or two key items that you can turn into an action plan.
